Licensed and permitted for another year!

Took six hours today and attended referee recertification. I'm officially blind and deaf for 2011, though I missed 10 questions out of 100. I need to bone up on the unlikely outcomes of throw-ins; though I do seem to have learned everything I was missing last year about Odd Things That Happen During PKs. Strangely I got right all the ones that the instructor wanted to go over after because they were "tricky" (though I triple-guessed myself on What To Do if a player spits at a teammate).

Had a late lunch (first meal of the day at 15.00!), got some groceries, and came home to a gloomy afternoon in a flat filled with stinky cat boxes. Not in a mood for making any decisions; I'm off to the couch with a bowl of fresh fruit, a cup of tea, and the Roku remote...

The Maryland Soccer Referees website says that

At every recertification clinic, the USSF Recertification exam will be administered. This exam consists of 100 questions, multiple choice and true/false. You will also be required to list the 10 penal fouls, the 8 technical infractions, the 8 cautionable offenses (and 3 cautions allowed for sustitutes), as well as the 7 send-off offenses.

Since to the best of my knowledge* there are only 7 cautionable offenses, I am curious to see how this works out.

*And I did just check the 2010/2011 Laws of the Game...

I ran two lines this morning, ARing a match at 8 and another at 9.45, and managed to come away without anyone extremely pissed off at me. It was exhausting and satisfying and really almost fun. :-)

I was feeling a bit blue on the way home, but I chatted with my neighbours about their cats, who I will be looking after next week, and about a squirrel who has figured out how to unlatch their canister of bird food on the porch (!) Then I did something I haven't done in far too long--I took a shower and then a long hot bath with a book. I stopped reading after a while and just enjoyed the hot water. But I got out when I started feeling sleepy, put on some warm clothes, and I'm going to have some lunch, maybe a nap if I can, like a cat, find a sunny spot. Later I need to do laundry, prep some miniatures for painting. DC United are playing for their chance to go to the playoffs. NJS and Bryan will be over later to pick up some stuff; I may go watch the game she's reffing (her first center, I think, in CCSL!) and her teams's game, then come home and have an early night.

I'm feeling pretty weary these days. Sadness threatens from time to time, and loneliness, but they're mostly keeping at bay what with the opportunities to do things with friends, books to read, videos to watch, Rupert to ride... mostly I just end up being tired. Need to sleep more and get more exercise!

Right now, though lunch beckons, and a beautiful sunny day!

A footballing priest from Burkina Faso has been sent off in a church tournament for throwing his shirt at the referee in Italy.
...
Italian sports officials had expressed hopes that the tournament held at the Vatican City will help restore a positive image of football in Italy, which has been marred by recent violence.

Wow. Neta and I ARed one match today, and then she played in a second and I ARed it. I really almost passed out. WTF is with 84*F in OCTOBER? Plus it was a Fieldturf field, so it just radiated heat right back at you. I drank about 3 liters of water, Neta and I drank about a bottle and a half of Gatorade on the way home. I'm debating the idea of food. I wasn't so happy about it when we had just stopped, but I had two small pretzels on the way home and those stayed with me.

Shower. Lying down. Lots of lying down. Sorry, thought I might do the holiday LJ entry tonight, but, no, it will have to wait another day or two.
