oh, and...

DC United actually WON! They beat the NE Revolution, though I'm not sure quite how it happened. NE wasn't getting any consistent penetration in the first half, but DC couldn't manage to put the elements of a good attack together either. Then in the second half, NE scored (the first pass was right one the edge of offside, but it went to the attacker as the officials are instructed to play it, and the final pass before the shot was totally legit--many fans continue not to understand the offside rule even a little).
Then United regrouped and poured fuel into the engine. They pressed hard, Moreno was brought in as the backline was weakened to provide more offense, and it paid off, as Doe got a goal (*eruption of joy*) off a pass from Moreno and then another (*MASSIVE* eruption of joy) off the smoothest little head/shoulder guidance from Quaranta.
It wasn't the prettiest game I've ever seen, and it was by no means sure (in fact, going in I couldn't see how we could possibly win), but they got the job done with a workmanlike game.
One thing I notice is that I do watch the officials more than I used to in the past, and I can nearly always see why they make the calls they do, even if I don't want to agree with them. I was glad when I saw that Weyland was down to center this match, as I think he's one of the better refs available, and I thought he handled the match well, keeping a lid on things and pushing the players to stay professional.
Just watch, though United will win the match in Cowlumbus, go into the playoffs, and choke in the first round. No one can break your heart like a football team.
