Saturday:

I went to TriaDCon in the afternoon to play in the DBA tournament, De Bellis Vasingtonium. Despite not having played DBA in a good long time, I came in 6th in a field of 14th, and I had a good time meeting a number of agreeable people, some of who I'd only known through the Internet before. I bought only one game, a bargain at $10, and no one who knows me will be surprised that I grabbed it right off.

Sunday:

[livejournal.com profile] soccer_fox and I engaged in what she calls "Super Soccer Sunday"--the soccer triathlon in which one plays, referees, and watches all in one day. Well, I didn't play, but I was wishing I had at the end of the day. She and I were the linesmen for one match, then I ran a line for the match her team was playing in. I was EXHAUSTED by the end of it, but the center (who had done both games) said some encouraging and complimentary things about my first two official officiating experiences! It did remind me yet again that I need badly to lose some weight and get in better shape (as will be apparent from the photos on the DBV page), but at least if I do it often enough I will get more exercise and thus stand in good stead to at least be a bit fitter.

I did manage to attract a good deal of ire from the defenders on two of the teams whose games I lined. I will note with amusement though that only the teams who ended up losing seemed to have a problem with my calls. Neta, meanwhile, came through her reffing assignment OK but got totally trampled in one exchange while she was playing. I spent the day being very sympathetic and attentive, only to have her admit last night (or sometime this morning) that it had actually been her foul of the other player that caused her injury! She's pretty bruised, scraped, and swollen in the ankle/calf/knee department.

We managed to scrape ourselves together, get home and clean up, and make it out to the DC United match. DC did us proud, beating the Revolution 4-2 even after a couple of dubious offside calls went New England's way. We came home, collapsed, and NJS did some homework while I made us dinner, did some washing up, we collaborated on the laundry, and I watched "To Sir, With Love" (a wonderfully dated and sappy tale of the tough but upright teacher inspiring a class full of tuoghs (as Molesworth sa) to become responsible young men and women.

Today:

SORE thigh muscles!

As to the new game, what is there to say but.."La"...

As to Neta, first she's diving and now she's aggressively fouling people, she's a damned Hooligan!
