Wow. Neta and I ARed one match today, and then she played in a second and I ARed it. I really almost passed out. WTF is with 84*F in OCTOBER? Plus it was a Fieldturf field, so it just radiated heat right back at you. I drank about 3 liters of water, Neta and I drank about a bottle and a half of Gatorade on the way home. I'm debating the idea of food. I wasn't so happy about it when we had just stopped, but I had two small pretzels on the way home and those stayed with me.

Shower. Lying down. Lots of lying down. Sorry, thought I might do the holiday LJ entry tonight, but, no, it will have to wait another day or two.

Thanks! I had a shower when I got home, kept drinking water, and rested, and today--to my astonishment--I just feel a little sore.

Honestly, I'm glad you're still *alive*. Yesterday a guy died running the Army Ten-Miler in DC , and another guy died running the Chicago Marathon (where the high was 88). It was a day to be reckoned with, no doubt. According to the weather report, the temperature topped out in the 90s at National Airport.

Yeah, I heard about those deaths. Very scary.

I was wearing a hat (to keep the sun out of my eyes) and a t-shirt (to save my ref jersey during the first match, and I took the t-shirt off and traded the hat for a visor to give me airflow, without which I think I would not have made it. I also kept a waterbottle by the side of the field and took drinks when there was a delay for the keeper to retrieve a ball off the field. I still came close to just stopping and sitting down.

I am rather astonished at how non-crappy I feel today. Neta is much worse off, having been playing the second game. They're doing an MRI of her knee later; I hope they find something they can repair, instead of just interior bruising. Oh, well, we get a break next weekend--we're going down to my mum's.

And the league is being very protective of officials. A player on one team got face to face with a CR in a match last week and threatened him after being ejected, and the league disciplinary commission has issued a three-game suspension and put the team on notice that another such incident and they will be banned from league play.
