military history geekage
Apr. 14th, 2010 05:49 pmI maintain that a great deal of my interest in military history--in history in general, in fact--comes from a lifelong love of maps and models. Something about seeing the real world *represented* in such a way that one can look at a great deal more of it at once than in real life, and from perspectives that are hard (or impossible) to attain in reality, is quite compelling for me. When it is a familiar place, there is also the thrill of recognition, but that's secondary for me.
So, the model maps linked to from these pages make me shiver with delight. For example, this page on the fortress of Belle Île with, among others, this image of the citadel, the main fortress--how could one *not* get all excited about such a wonderful model?
