Any of my UK readers have any experience in working in or with law enforcement?

Whatever mysterious ailment caused my colour printer to stop being able to understand that it had paper in it and didn't need more in order to print has been solved by unplugging it and putting it in a box for two months--it's working again!

Ah, the innate cussedness of inanimate objects...

What a very pleasant weekend! [livejournal.com profile] soccer_fox went out for a very nice dinner on Friday and watched "Brassed Off", a movie I'm very fond of. Saturday, we hung about the house in the morning, relaxing and watching most of the movie again (she'd fallen asleep partway through) and talking about the evils of Margaret Thatcher. In the afternoon we did a fair bit of cleaning, and then went out to explore Sligo Creek Trail. She took her rollerblades, and I brought Rupert, and we had a lovely time. We went about six miles or so (round trip), but that's only a small portion of it's (12 mile) length. It's a bit cut up by cross streets and so on, but it's a very pleasant place to exercise, shady and windy and (mostly) well paved. We came home and made a very eccentric but highly tasty dinner--pancakes, fried eggs, sauteed squash, with leftover cheesecake we had brought back from [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel's Fourth of July party.

Sunday we messed about in the morning, doing dishes and talking, then went to a party hosted by some of the people from one of N's soccer teams, then off to Virginia to dinner and games with [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat and [livejournal.com profile] redactrice. M made an absolutely delicious meal of lamb patties with herbs and spices, a wonderful rattatouille (sp?), and baked chopped potatoes. We contributed some drinks and a yummy dessert, and the four of us played Samurai twice and Marklin Ticket to Ride once. It was a lovely evening to cap off a very nice day.

*sigh* Back to work life. We still need to get one of the cars inspected and both of them titled & tagged. All sorts of other things lined up, too--it will be a busy week!

Once again, I'm left frustrated by the absence of a mentor, someone I could go to with tough decisions to get the advice of experience and wisdom. At 43, I suppose I'm supposed to not need such, but that sure ain't so. Read more... )

I got distracted from working on the Mach rules summary by this link to great LJ disputes from [livejournal.com profile] cranky_editors.

There are some great fights listed here, but for some reason my funny bone is particularly twitched by:

Tiger
A revert war on whether the tiger can properly be described as the "most powerful living cat" (complete with accusations that people were "tiger fanboys") gradually led to arguments about how tigers would match up vs. bears and crocodiles, complete with another revert war about the inclusion of a YouTube video showing a tiger fighting a crocodile, eventually leading to the article being semi-protected. The debates about bears and crocodiles continue on the talk page.
