I had been thinking all day that today was Wednesday.

And I was looking forward to seeing [livejournal.com profile] gr_c17 and [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel, who usually come over on Wednesday nights. But I was getting a little concerned because I have to make up some time before the end of the week, and I have a couple of dinners planned to cook before I go away, and I have some hobby tasks to do before the 19th, and it seemed as if I had lost at least one day here somewhere and it was going to be tricky to make it up.

Fortunately, both Google Calendar and MS Windows are smarter than I am when I've only had 4-5 hours of sleep. They assure me comfortingly that today is only Tuesday. I can cook both the meals I have planned. I can make up the time. I can accomplish some of the hobby stuff this week.

Tuesday didn't go missing. Tuesday is today. :-)

John McCain probably not really descended from Robert the Bruce...or Charlemagne.

I don't know which is funnier--the British genealogists who have apparently never heard of this popular American pastime of "tracing your roots" back to European royalty (I had a housemate who claimed to be able to trace his family back to the Angevin kings--which begs the question of whether one would really want to be associated with them) or the genealogist who thinks that Robert Bruce's destruction of Stirling Castle was some kind of fraternity prank. He may know a good deal about researching family trees, but I gather he knows very little about the Scots-English wars...

too funny

I got distracted from working on the Mach rules summary by this link to great LJ disputes from [livejournal.com profile] cranky_editors.

There are some great fights listed here, but for some reason my funny bone is particularly twitched by:

Tiger
A revert war on whether the tiger can properly be described as the "most powerful living cat" (complete with accusations that people were "tiger fanboys") gradually led to arguments about how tigers would match up vs. bears and crocodiles, complete with another revert war about the inclusion of a YouTube video showing a tiger fighting a crocodile, eventually leading to the article being semi-protected. The debates about bears and crocodiles continue on the talk page.
