I'm so disappointed. Haven't seen any yet--it seems the trees in my neighborhood and at the metro weren't old enough to attract and Cicadas 17 years ago and they've done way too much construction in the park across the street for anything to have survived.
*giggle* I remember them when I was a kid - my brother would catch them and tear off one wing - sick little bastard. lol I also remember people always calling them locusts - which they are NOT.
I've seen two so far, both on my apartment parking lot. One (Tuesday evening) must have recently left its nymph shell--it was still half cream-colored and didn't look dry yet. This morning's was on the pavement behind my car (they like heat, and the pavement was HOT). The pollen this year is bad enough on my car--I'm not looking forward to lots of bug bodies. Especially since I like to leave my sunroof popped a little to let the heat out when I have to park in the sun at work. The thought of dealing with them in my parents' pool, which is surrounded on three sides by trees (many of which are 60+ years old and perfect cicada breeding ground), just icks me. I imagine we'll be skimming them out until July.
I love the bit about human children being the cicada's main diet. I think it might be the other way around. I'm sure having a hard time keeping TJ from trying to taste one.
