I don't usually do memes, but this one actually provides for some interesting follow-up.

Suggest to me:

1. A movie

2. A book.

3. A musical artist, song, or album.

4. An livejournal user not on my friends list.

Respond in comments and then put it in your own journal if you wish.

You'll have seen mine, so I won't repeat myself. :)

This is the only really useful meme I've ever seen.
I like the book recs the best, I think.

OK,

1. The Third Man. I can watch it again and again.

2. The Folk Of The Air by Peter S. Beagle; a gently humourous and quietly magical book and one of my many perennial favourites. (I tend to shuttle from one favourite to another most of the time.)

3. Kathryn Tickell, the Northumbrian pipes player. Her music grew and grew on me and kept me sane and happy through many years. I can't quite express why, but somehow the music seems powerfully happy, joyful, peaceful, poaitive, the very opposite of cynicism and marketing and artificiality, just lovely honest music being made for the sake of it.

I have plenty of other favourites, so if you don't like those, come back and try again :-)

1. Might be a trendy pick but I enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth - dark, savage, bittersweet. I'm a sucker for the director (Hellboy rules! Yay to the
sequel next year!).

2. I have dusted off my Brian Freemantle and am re-reading the first of his Charlie Muffin novels, cleverly named 'Charlie M'. British spy novels -
I think they are second only to LeCarre. Freemantle wrote a couple of
histories of the KGB and CIA that are terribly edited but very interesting.

3. Well I have been listening to Explosions in the Sky - they had some
bump-up in popularity when they did the soundtrack to the movie Friday
Night Lights. All instrumental, sweeping, moody stuff. A friend of mine
played "Great Big Sea", a band from Newfoundland (I think) that are
pretty fun -- made me think of you, Winterbadger, in fact, and the music
you've played for me at your place in the past -- celtic-y, folk-y, stuff.
I'm prepared for you to say you've played this band for me, in fact. :)

4. Sorry, you and Arundel are the only LJers I know... :)
