winterbadgerAnother frustrating morning. Too tired to go game last night, so I missed the WHFB minitourney (OK, since I'd forgotten to bring rules, dice, or templates) and the BloodBowl league for like the third week in a row. Got some ironing done, practiced some very basic melodies and chords on the guitar, then went to bed at midnight, planning to get up at 7. Cats woke me at 5.40, wasn't able to get back to sleep after tossing them out. Computer acting odd and slow, so I DLed Spybot Search & Destroy which I had installed on the old machine but hadn't gotten for the new one, installed, scanned, hoovered up all the nasty little bits of stuff, including something from Gator (aiiieee!) that had somehow gotten on there, and the browser worked much better.
No message from J, my latest match.com correspondent. Checked on match.com and saw she had sent me a message last night that never arrived! I'm guessing that the SpamAssassin cox.net has installed without telling us and without our having any control over decided the email was spam and killed it. Is there *any* other, better cable ISP around here? Because of our neighborhood's peculiar phone wiring, DSL is not an option, even though we're less than a mile from the telco office.
Ended up missing the shower window between C and M, which meant I ended up being late for work again. Not their fault, mine--whenever I end up waiting for the last shower, I try to use the time to catch up on email, computer projects, etc. and *always* fail to hear the shower stop upstairs, so I look up and it's past 8.00 and I'm nowhere near ready to go. It's not that we don't have two showers (in fact, we effectively have three) or enough hot water (we have two *huge* HW heaters); it's actually the *cold* water that's in limited supply, because of the well. And cold is as important as hot in showers, unless you like being scalded.
So I shower, do meds (forgot half of them), get dressed, get my gear together for the day, out the door and it's past 8.30, I'm in the car waiting at a stoplight, and the left turners in the oncoming lane are streaming across the intersection. Thing is, *our* light has turned green, which means they're all driving through a red light. I'm fuming since I'm already late (again, my own fault, but that doesn't make it easier) . Then it happens: the third car through what must be a red light flips on its blue lights and siren. HEEEEE! GOTCHA! I don't know if he got both of the cars ahead of him, but he got one. I actually sat in my car and applauded. It was enough to change my mood to "not grumpy"; probably makes me an evil, bad person, but (shrug) so be it.

Date: 2004-04-14 10:37 am (UTC)And, while BMGing about PC stuff, how stupid is it that the copy of Norton that came with my PC doesn't have a code with it that I need to renew the service? So if I want to keep updating antivirus defs &c., I either have to (a) call Symantec customer service and explain or (b) buy and install a whole new copy. And my guess is that (a) will probably lead to (b). I mean, I'm not expecting a discount, just a slightly easier way to give them my money than either having to wait to talk to a human or download and install soemthign I already have.
