Really quick.

*Beautiful* day! Wish I could just take Rupert down to the Potomac or to Prince William Park and cycle for hours. But must work...

Very pleasant ride this morning; did route 2 plus the loop again. 2.6 miles, 18 minutes. Pushed a little harder than usual, but I also had somme shifting trouble on the hill up Crestview.

Lots of flowers and flowering trees in bloom, warm air, breezes, lovely!

Shower time!

...is a genius writer with a conscience and a wonderful sense, not only of how people *are* but how they _should_ be, and aspire to be.

I was looking for another quote, adn I came across this one from The West Wing. Leo McGarry, the president's chief of staff, is trying to persuade the president that sending American troops into Colombia en masse is a very, very bad idea.

"I fought a jungle war. I'm not doing it again. If I could put myself anywhere in time it would be the Cabinet Room on August 4th, 1964, when our ships were attacked by North Vietnam in the Tonkin Gulf. I'd say, 'Mr. President, don't do it. You're considering authorizing a massive commitment of troops and throwing in our lot with torturers and panderers, leaders without principle and soldiers without conviction, with no clear mission and no end in sight."

It wasn't political. He wrote that scene 2-3 years *before* we invaded Iraq. But damn if it doesn't resonate today.

Anyone interested in seeing some 18th century soldiers (well, sort of) should look up the "Crisis on the Potomac" event at Gunston Hall this weekend. Info here. [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and I will be there tomorrow, and [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel and [livejournal.com profile] gr_c17 will be there both days. Just look for the men in kilts! :-)

C and I will be absent from Sunday's reenacting because both of us will be heading to RFK Stadium for the opening of DC United's 2006 season! Yay! Hopefully we will be present for the first crushing of the former NY/NJ MetroStars (aka the MetroScum), now RedBull[sh*t] NY. This should be quite the fun time, as RedBull NY is bringing 800 or more of their fans with them (allegedly), having offered a free roadtrip as an inducement to get folks out for the new season. Presumably they'll be cryin' intae their wee cans o' nasty energy drink all the way back tae New Jersey after United give them a dam' good thrashing!

At least, I certainly hope we do, as A. will be coming with me to the game, and I'd hate for her first meeting with the Boys in Black to be anythign but glorious. :-)
