New cold sores on tongue. Sore throat that's getting aggressively nastier. Aches and pains. Light headedness. Temperature of 99.2*F (mine is normally around 97-98).

Plus I cut my foot and *that's* sore (of course, right in the centre of the ball of the foot...)

I've been a mostly healthy person the majority of my life. This rash of illness and injury over the last 4-6 months is beyond ridiculous.

The coughing is getting better--I can go for an hour or more without a coughing fit--but getting out of bed yesterday morning I stepped wrong, somehow or other, and my heel started hurting. I've had this happen before; it's usually just a little muscle strain from landing the foot the wrong way. But I pottered around all day and it got no better. Despite taking plenty of aspirin, elevating it, icing it, and putting compression on it, I find this morning that it hurts more than ever. I can't even set it down on the floor without pain, unless it's perfectly flat (maybe plantar fasciitis, or some sort of tendinitis or muscle tear).

Really, it never rains but it pours.

I hate to put this this way, but I will not be welcoming visits from people from out of town from now on unless they have been passed by the World Health Organization.

Picked up a cold, I think from a visiting friend of a friend. Increasingly miserable from Friday through Sunday. Symptoms constantly changing, but not getting any *better*, just different things painful and constantly drippy/congested/raw. So tired even reading no fun, have gone through two seasons of BTVS in two days. Getting thoroughly sick of continually pouring hot water (tea/bouillion/cold medicine/hot cider) down my throat.

I HATE colds.

This situation truly warrants the "pants" icon.

I had calculated to a nicety how far negative I could go in leave to take my trip next week.

As you can imagine, that didn't involve me taking nearly a week off sick (I can't recall the last time I did this that wasn't recovery from an operation).

So, I have the choice of taking my vacation as planned but taking the time off without pay (which would cost me a very large sum, let's call it X) or cancelling my trip (which would cost me, with nonrecoverable plane fare &c., about 2/3 of X).

This will be at least the third time in the past four years that I've had to cancel an overseas trip at the last minute. Of course, the last time I *took* an overseas trip it wasn't a 100% happy experience either.

*sigh*

Well, I hope I never have another bug like this one, but I think the worst is over. cut for the squeamish )

Wow, I don't remember the last time I was this sick. It's very gnarly--very painful sore throat, congestion, nasty cough.

Meanwhile, the UHI Centre for History FB brings the following links to my attention:

Medieval music find

Opposition to monument for Government Forces at Culloden

OK, back to lashings of hot tea and MLS soccer on TV.
