I was rabbiting about the UHI site today and found something wonderful hidden in their Business and Leisure programmes. They offer an MSc in Management and Practice of Interpretation. Not language--historical, arts, culture, and environmental interpretation. What I spent my summers in college and countless hours of my reenacting life doing.
It's taught 100% online, with overseas students welcome. There are courses starting next month and in January 2010.
Combine that with at least the PgDip in Archaeology that I was thinking about for January 2011 and the master's in history I've been talking to them about for September 2011, and I would have a good skill set for working at any sort of historic site or museum. And good credentials if I wanted to go on to some place like Glasgow or Edinburgh to do doctoral research that could be not just bound and shelved but turned into some sort of small public project (a display board, a handout for TICs or a site, or a repertory interpretation at a historic site, for example a character interpreter in residence over a summer).
I've been talking a lot with Mel and Chris while I've been on holiday about what direction I really want to go in next. I've known I wanted to go to the UK for some time, but now I have a *direction*.
