O Internet, how I love thee! Let me count the ways.

Connected Histories: Sources for Building British History, 1500-1900

So, I mentioned a while back that I had run across this free, online course in paleography.

I opened it up recently, registered, and started the course.

And, I don't know exactly how to describe it or why it happened, but I found as I started reading through the program that I was struck with a terrific sense of glee. Really, I don't know how to account for it other than that (a) I love learning stuff, (b) this is a new skill I can acquire, and one that--by learning it--allows me to learn even more stuff, (c) it's a way of unlocking an understanding of the past.  It doesn't hurt that all the examples so far are in Latin, and, after 30+ years it's lovely to find an opportunity to actually use the four years of Latin I took in high school (what shreds of it remain...)
