oh, and...

I was very impressed that my surgeon called yesterday to check up on me and see how I was doing. Yes, the surgeon himself, not a minionion, called on a Sunday. Now, the phone readout said he was at the hospital, so I'm guessing he had surgery scheduled and was filling in time, but still, I thought that was pretty nice of him! He filled me in on the surgery itself (everything was fairly straightforward, he said, with one side needing a bit more repair than the other), told me the post-op bleeding I'd had was nothing to be worried about, said it sounded as if I was well on the way (he sounded distinctly pleased that I hadn't found the need to use much of the percocet--I think all in all I'll have used fewer than half a dozen of the 40 they gave me), and said he'd see me in his office in a week.

My interior is still feeling a bit bruised in a few places, so I'm going to take a day or two more at home. OTOH, it's feeling much better than I would have expected right after the surgery. As much of a surprise as it was to me how much it hurt right after, I'm astonished at how fast the body bounces back. There's still some inside pain and outer tenderness, but I swear right after I was feeling as if I was never going to be the same again, like it would take forever to come back from something that ouchy. I guess what they say about guys and dogs (we only ever live in the moment) may be true. :-)

Another nice evening with Da Grrlz. Nora came over and watched her basketball game (at first it looked like we couldn't get it, but what had been blacked out was the previous Knicks-Celtics game that ran over--although I have no idea why *that* would be blacked out for a DC audience...), but the four of us didn't go out to dinner. NB was feeling a bit off, and I was still a little dodgy for transport. So when C & M got back from an afternoon of shopping, they heated up the rest of the delicious stew from the night before and we watched the second half of the Elizabeth program.

I really have the nicest housemates in the world I think. :-)

(C just came by with another tin of chicken soup for me, asked how I was feeling, solicited a grocery list, and said they'd come down earlier "to make sure I wasn't dead" but tiptoed out when they found me sleeping. I mean, you gotta love people who will check to make sure you're not dead! You guys are the best! :-)

Still ouchy. Sitting up straight is much better than lying down, apparently.

Time for more tea, and maybe I'll heat up this soup...

I thought I'd been whining to everyone about it; I guess I forgot to whine here too. :-)

I got diagnosed last month with a pair of mild inguinal hernias. So today was making a small hole (two, actually, judging from the bandages) in Jan, pushing all the bits back where they're supposed to go, and putting the abdominal equivalent of chain-link fencing inside to make sure they stay there.

To bad they don't seem to have vacuumed out all the extra fat while they were at it! :-)

No lifting (or, from the feel of things, bending) for a couple of weeks, along with no exercise more serious than walking. Then things ahould be back to normal.

Some details that are a bit TMI, I think, but parts of me feel better already. :-)

I'm back from surgery and doing OK. Many, many thanks to Chris, who is being a real pal about driving me around, getting my prescription filled, etc.

I think I'll take a raincheck on the mueum visit tomorrow, but hopefully I will be able to make dinner with Da Grrlz on Sunday night still.

So far: dizziness from general anaesthetic wearing off, sore throat from being intubated (told me that ahead of time--somethign to do with how the lap. surgery works), dehydration (which I will be working on reversing shortly, hungry (and no problem so far with crackers, etc.), and considerable soreness and pressure in the tum plus tenderness and bruising in related bits (which they mentioned might happen). Percocet is my friend! I also have a cute little pillow (got to get somethign for my $500! :-) to hold over my ice pack.

Lots of relaxing and telly are in order, I think, plus throat soother tea and mild food.
