The other user was, what, in the US or Canada? Probably the only places people wouldn't be accustomed to having the past cheek by jowl with the present.

as for AOL - I have tried to break her of the habit, but you know how hard it is to learn to use real internet clients when you've learned on AOL's own systems. She says that she has it for the "parental controls" - but her son is now an adult! (pair wee lad still isn't allowed to do anything on his own - she still goes everywhere with him)
