I went out to the farmers' market, fed the cats next door, got lunch from Pollo Campero*, and I've been watching telly off the DVR.I'm not sure what's making it harder to stay awake--the heat and humidity or the piles of sleeping cats everywhere. :-) I've had a cafetiere of coffe with breakfast and a coke (after lunch) and I'm still dozing.

Trying to figure out whether to keep trying to stay awake or just take a nap.

Oh, wait, Busby's found a cat toy. I think I'll be staying awake a while longer... :-)

ETA: Cooling down a bit now and breezier, but still sultry.

* After hearing for so long about what a huge deal this is in CentAm, I've been wanting to try it for a while. Not much different from KFC, except slightly less greasy (+) and a more exotic selection of sides and drinks (+) which are mostly much more bland than US alternatives (-). The black beans and rice are less spicy than Cajun red beans and rice, but still tasty. The "spicy rice" is not at all spicy, almost flavourless. I chose a soft drink at random, maranon, which was odd but OK. Turns out it's cashew-fruit juice!

Hm. Never tried Pollo Campero in DC, but of course we'll have to next time we come back. I loved their chicken in Central America--way less greasy than KFC and juicier than Popeye's (my previous favorite). The French fries were OK, but the rest fo teh side dishes were "meh." Bland beans and rice; welcome to CentAm!

Of course, what made Pollo Campero special in Guatemala was that they always put it smack dab in the middle of the market district. It was great being able to sit there and munch your chicken while watching a sea of traditionally dressed humanity going past---buying and selling and carrying things on their heads. An instant floorshow.

Oh, and PC has table service inside (with waiters), which is a new experience for an American in a fast-food restaurant.
