trip cancelled

OK, with the car broken, some contractual stuff around getting Mum's house ready to sell unresolved (someone was supposed to be doing some work while I was gone, but they never got the contract to me, and they won't start without a signed contract and a deposit), and Mum being really unstable, I'm just not in a state to be going away for a week.

The Expedia cancellation insurance won't cover me, because my emergency is apparently not compelling enough (if I had had a breakdown on the *way* to the airport, or if a family member had become seriously ill *yesterday*, that apparently would have been enough), but the good news is that since I cancelled ahead of the flight time, I can get a credit for the cost of the flight, minus a penalty, if I rebook through the same agent with the same carrier (BMI). So I'll try this all again in a couple of months.

I'm gutted not to be seeing ban_leodhasach and my other friends in the Edinburgh area. I'm bummed to be missing the football we were going to see next weekend (still, another time I can see Hibs with R, and she'll be much happier about that :-). I'm sad not to be seeing Scotland, but maybe trading February for spring or summer won't be so bad a deal. :-) But at this point I'm mostly upset that my freaking car is broken *again* and that I missed *both* john_arundel's party *and* the con.

still, at least you'll miss our snow. not that it's anything to compare with snow in the US, but the city is in chaos enough due to the tram works. (three people in a week knocked down on Princes Street at the road works)

What a shame and rotten decision to have to make - but I think you've done the right thing, you wouldn't enjoy it at the moment. Hope you're able to rearrange it soon.

May I add my voice to the above - sorry to hear it but sounds like it was the right choice. Hope by delaying you get better weather (it's horrible this morning!) and will see you next time!
