Few who knew Palin in college remember her.

I mean, none of us were all that brainy when we were HS graduates. But come on! Planning to go all the way from Alaska to Hawai'i for college and never stop to consider what the weather might be like? Not think about how in the tropics maybe it rains a lot, and most of the time it's going to be warm? What a freakin' maroon!

So her knowledge of foreign affairs didn't extend to other parts of her own country, never mind any further? I am impressed.

They knew they wanted to get out of Wasilla, but they didn't care where they went enough to find out about it.

I can totally get that they couldn't afford to travel to all the colleges they considered, given that they lived in AK. But they presumably, even before the advent of Teh Intarwebs, could go to the library and look up "Hawai'i" in the encyclopedia. And *read* the brochures the colleges sent out.

Look, even just watch "Magnum PI" (a show I admit I was very fond of). *That* was around in the 1980s. Sarah, notice how Magnum is always wearing a short-sleeved shirt? And very often shorts? And his buddies do the same? (Even the superproper fussy English guy ;-) wears short trousers and short-sleeved shirts). Does that suggest to you that it might be, oh, WARM there in Paradise? Gaaah.

well, there's knowing something intellectually, and actually knowing it. Us Scots get caught out every year - we long for sunshine and warm weather, head off to sunny climes on holiday (vacation) thinking fondly of the 80, 90 or 100 F temperatures we've been warned about - and suddenly discover when we're there that it's just too bl**dy hot!!
