I was saying yesterday that why were they telling northerners to move to the South and then say London, Oxford and Cambridge? They're not in the South. I mean, they're all a lot further north than I am, here on the actual South Coast. :) (Oxford is a good two hours directly due north.) Of course, I'm sure the people on the Isle of Wight think I live in the North. ;)
There are times I wish we lived further north. When we were in Peterborough last weekend, we saw houses on sale for so cheap -- £165K for a four-bedroom semi with a two-car garage. *sigh* That's less than we paid for our three-bedroom terrace with a one-car garage six years ago. I've not seen prices going down here, despite the crunch, but it's still not a good time for us to try to sell and move. Teachers are paid the same in the expensive part of the country where I live (more expensive than many parts of London where they make more money), but their money goes so much further oop north. *sigh*
well, you see, if they ship everyone out of the North, force them South to live, it leaves a mostly empty countryside with some of the most splendid scenery in the whole of England - ideal for the Rich to build all their nice new holiday homes and country villas in.
