Limo tried to leave before we were ready to go, flight was delayed going into Chicago, leaving Chicago, shared a row with a under-two-year-old named Thomas and (at any one time) one of his parents. Baggage fell behind, hopefully catching us up soon. Got into the flat, but when N used the nifty washer/dryer, she couldn't get it to actually dry the clothes it had washed--it just kept steaming them...

Still, we're here. We have the wedding dress. Tomorrow we get the license/schedule. The essentials are in place...

washer-dryers are a bit fiddly - you usually have to take about half the clothes out and do them in two loads, as the max load for the dryer is about half that of the washer.

At least the weather looks like it's going to pick up a bit. You missed the gales - and hopefully by the time you're heading north, the Forth Bridge will be open again.

BTW, do you pronounce your name with the hard J (like John) or the Scandanavian/Dutch "Y" sound?

Er ... that may be as good as it's going to get, depending on whether you've had any previous experience of UK washers and dryers ... we don't really have this clothes--drying business properly nailed down.

Yup, we have one of the Euro-style combo W/Ds in our place. It basically bakes the clothes dry. And it takes FOREVER--wash time is 30-45 minutes, dry time is 3-5 hours. That's just how it goes.

Pisica and I were a bit worried that you might not make it, hurrah that you did!

Table is booked for 15 people at 7pm at Bar Roma. (15 because I assumed that the 12 was without Pisica and partner and without Tom, who comes home Friday, yay!)

Tom and I will come and pick people up to walk over if you want/let me know where to get you from.

No, we have perfectly good tumble dryers - but those washer-dryer combos are rubbish.

Anyway, on a nice summer's day (or even a dry winter's day) there's nothing like a good stiff Edinburgh breeze for getting your clothes dry!

The washer/dryer combos sound good, but they're not. They save space, but they can take forever to dry, and you can't dry all that you washed at the same time -- you need to remove about half the load and try it later.

There are good tumble dryers here (we own one! :), but they're separate machines, as in the US.

Everything will just become better from here! :)
