Firefox and Java--unhappy?

In the last few days, my Firefox browser has started refusing to run Java programs. If I load a page that has Java applets enabled, they simply grey out and nothing happens. When I try to launch the Java Console in FFX, it greys out in the menu and doesn't launch. I've made sure I have the latest FFX and the latest Java installed. I have Java and Javascript enabled in Options. This is frustrating and really tiresome, since I fill out my timecard for work via a Java program, so I can't do it when I get home after work. Anyone know what's going on? I hate to have to use Internet Explorer, but...

Several of the more recent releases of Firefox have disabled java. Java comes out with a fix for whatever the problem was that the Mozilla folks found about a week later. In the meantime I guess you just have to use MSIE for apps requiring java.
