In case any of my USAian friends were not aware of, or not sure of, the extent of the flooding in the UK recently. These pictures are from a page linked to by a poster to a Wars of the Roses group I read.

The current on-going problems being reported on the news here are that water-treatment plants got flooded, and had to be closed down. Quite a lot of Gloucestershire has been without mains water for a week or so. They're now getting things repaired and re-connected, but what comes through the taps won't be drinking quality for another few days.

I'm not in a flood-hit area myself, but I gather everything's under control: they used the army to move equipment around, supply water from bowsers, provide temporary accomodation where needed, and so on. Roughly the same as we'd do if called in to a disaster in a 3rd world country, only this was at home. The system is there, it got used, it worked. Now we can get back to arguing over what twit thought building on flood plains was a good idea.

Have you seen the aerial photo showing Tewkesbury Abbey as an island? :(
