Uh, can I mention Nazi Germany here? Because these people certainly sound similar. Hitler would have laughed in disbelief to get followers already so convinced that black is white and good is evil and evil is good. You can easily imagine them imposing a Final Solution to the problems of the Middle East, for instance - just with a different group of Semites than the Germans targeted.
That gives new meaning to the term "ship of fools."
Seriously, though, mostly what that article says to me it that there are a lot of blinkered, complacent idiots in the world, and with the right sponsorship, you can get a bunch of them together.
Poor WF Buckley, I feel for him in his later years. ("Oh mill, what hast thou ground?")
I find it terribly ironic that WFB and GHWB were two of the undergrads that my mother remembers from her days as a don's daughter at Yale. One too clever by half, and one not clever at all. And look what ruin their children, spiritual and physical, have brought upon our country.
"O mill..." That is a chilling phrase, and I couldn't remember where it had come from. Of course, I should have known.
