I didn't want to let the week pass by without mentioning that I'd been asked to come play with one of
soccer_fox's co-ed teams on Wednesday night. They were facing a severe shortage of players and were looking for anyone with two feet and a pulse. Justin and I both turned up, but the other team, unfortuantely, did not! Turned out they had not gotten a change to the printed schedule that had the game startign at 7 instead of 9. N's team (fittingly for me called Los Viejos--the old ones) had a half-field scrimmage,a nd I ended up playing for most of the nearly two hours the scrimmage lasted. I had a blast and even began remembering a few of the long-forgotten skills I once had. It's been a while (about a year since I played pick-up, and several years since I played on a team), so I was pleased that I managed to keep goign the whoel time, though I took a few more breathing breaks than other people. Much to my astonishment, N said she thoguht I did pretty well, though that may just be the eyes of love.
My legs are still aching two days later, though, even though I took trouble to stretch before and after. Maybe if I gte back to riding daily I can build up a bit more stamina...
