I'm really confused, and more annoyed and angry than ever at the doctors involved.

The latest bulletin from my sister Victoria, who has been visiting Dad regularly, is that he's sitting up in bed, carrying on conversations with her, and is capable of eating and drinking again. Of course, apparently the first things she brought him were a thermos of tea and some chocolate ice cream which, since he's been diagnosed with GERD and Barrett's epithelium were probably not great choices, but I'm sure they made him happy. He's getting stronger and sounds to be fully conscious and lucid.

Every time we hear something from the doctors, they can't explain what happened to him, they just say "Oh, he's certainly dying." Well, all of us are dying; without any explanation of what is or was wrong with him, this vague answer is carrying less and less weight with me. But every time I hear what my sister has observed when going to see him, it sounds as if he is recovering from a sickness. I'm glad if he's not dying, so long as he is comfortable and happy. But I'm not very happy that a bunch of trained medicos seem to be so unable to provide some answers to what seem like simple questions.

I wish experts, in any field, had the sense to admit when they haven't the foggiest idea. That was the conclusion my own doctor reached a week or so ago, and having done so, ordered a whole batch of tests that ended up discovering what the problem was. There's nothing wrong with not knowing, but there's a lot wrong with trying to hide the fact!
