Feb. 3rd, 2007 04:57 pmWow, am I feeble! I only went riding four times last month, and it really shows. This afternoon I did what is supposed to be my usual daily jaunt (~6 miles through our local park) and it totally wiped me out. I guess it's true what they say about late nights, too much booze, and not enough fresh air! I only wish I'd had a few wicked women to make the dissipation more worthwhile! ;-)
So, this month I really need to get back on track. Especially since I've set my goal for this spring to be to do the whole W & OD in one (long) day. If 6 miles is wearing me out, it's going to be a long drag to get up to doing 45! I was at a point in the summer wher 10-12 was quite reasonable and left me tired but not winded. Need to get back there.

Date: 2007-02-04 05:05 pm (UTC)I've done Vienna to Purcellville several times, and from Falls Cuhurch once, but not yet the whole trail.
A group of us from Bikeforums are talking about doing it, with a few added miles to make a century. But they've talking about late April, so I'm not sure I'll be ready. I've never done a 100 mile day before, but that's pone of my goals this year.
One strategy I used to build up miles was to start at a middle point, like Trailside/Route 28 crossing. Ride out to Leesburg or beyond, ride back, then ride in towards Vienna as far as I felt I could manage. Often threw in a stop at the DQ in Herndon as an incentive. Hardest part was making myself ride past where I started to get in the extra miles.
Keep on spinning.

Date: 2007-02-05 03:50 am (UTC)I've been doing the up-and-back thing in sections, so sooner or later I'll have ridden the whole thing in bits. But I would like to try doing the whole thing once.
