That is to say, we went to McKay's used bookstore in Centerville. Only first we stopped at the Game Parlor....

I picked up SpaceMunchkin: The Clown Wars, because it looked fun, and we already have Space Munchkin. I got this because I like the game, and someday I'd like to run it; in the meantime I enjoy reading the supplements. I got Warhammer Historical's Armies of Chivalry for many of the same reasons; I can't decide if I want to play my ancient and medieval miniature battles with Warhammer or somethign else (like Might of Arms). And they do have pretty pictures! And I got two starter decks for Horus Heresy because I've already got some of the 40K CCG and wanted to see what the new line looks like. I was hoping to get some of the new Diamond editon decks from L5R, but they seemed to be out of them; they only had the Training Ground sets, which I didn't want. Yes, flipping big wodges of cash were spent, but I should be getting the first check with my new salary in it soon, and I spent most of the bonus (well, the part I got after taxes, grumble) on charity, so a small splurge didn't seem out of line.

So, on to McKay's. [livejournal.com profile] shy_cat and I both got pretty decent amounts of credit for the books we had brought to turn in. I went to town in the nonfiction, picking up several books for work-related or at least "keeping up with the world" reading (this and this on China; this and this on the Balkans; and this on Iraq). And given my Spanish Civil War fetish, I couldn't resist Cecil Eby's "The Siege of the Alcazar" in hardcover for $5.

Fiction... I was hoping to find some of P.K. Chisholm's Border mysteries, but I think they're a little too new in the US (or people like them too much to part with them :-). After thinking it over, I passed on getting any of Laurie King's modern mysteries for the moment. I'll try them from the library first if I get the urge. On [livejournal.com profile] geekchick's recommendation, I picked up two Laurell K. Hamilton mysteries (Guilty Pleasures and The Lunatic Cafe). Three books I picked up because I'd always wanted to try something by that author (this, this, and this). I like Roger Zelazny's writing, so I took a chance on this. This has always looked intriguing. This I got to see if any of the L5R fic is any good. And this just looked interesting.

Then we came home; they made cookies and went to a grrl party; I had leftovers and finished watching High and Low (which can finally go back to Netflix after 10 months). Then they came back and [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and I watched DC tie LA at LA. :-) We played very well. Then I slept until 11.

Now, off to the party,
