tailgate triumph
Apr. 4th, 2004 08:48 amBTW, for those who have been listening to me worry about it for the last week, the tailgate I was supposed to organize yesterday before the DC United home opener came off very well. A ton of folks pitched in and helped out, and we fed--I would guess--several hundred people. We ran through two 1/2 kegs of beer (I discovered that what I've always thought of as a keg is actually a helf keg--I can't even imagine what a full keg must weigh...) and almost all the food we had bought. I think everyone had a very good time, and I think we did a tremendous job of promoting our club and showing folks how much fun it can be.
*Then* we went inside and saw our team put on a magnificent performance. I won't say I think the glory years of 1996/1997 are back, just based on one game, but this look like a team that is serious, fit, works well together, and has focus. Which hasn't been the case for a long time.
Addendum: It looks like we served over 120 diners, with goodness knows how many more drinkers (our club has free beer and soft drinks for its members at our tailgates, and lots of people eat beforehand and just drink and socialize at the TGs.) This is roughly four times as many people as we fed at most of our TGs last season. No wonder Scott and I were grilling for two hours straight.
