I seem to have mysteriously lost about 6 pounds (nearly half a stone ;-) in the past two weeks. I'm terribly chuffed, though I don't quite understand it. I haven't gotten nearly enough exercise lately, and I've not done quite as well as I meant to with food and drink. But I am eating a bit healthier, and a bit less, so that must be part of it. I'm back three notches on my belt, to the last hole; I may have to get a smaller one! :-)

Date: 2006-08-17 04:38 pm (UTC)I have a theory that as soon as you start trying to diet, your body immediately wants what it can't have. As soon as you just accept you can eat whatever you like, you stop craving sweet/salty/whatever flicks your switch.
Having said that, from your userinfo pic, you looked fine to me before!

Sadly, my experience has been that that doesn't work for me. I got onto a sensible, healthy diet (in the sense of "diet" as "what one normally eats" rather than "temporary measure to lose some weight and then go back to how I was eating before") a while ago after losing a fair amount of weight, but when I sort of slid off that and started eating and drinking more or less whatever I felt like, I ended up gaining back all the weight I had lost before, plus some extra, because I was eating all sorts of things that tasted good, but weren't all that good for me. :-(
I think for my own purposes I need to stick as best I can to eating lots more fruit and veg, some meat and dairy (as low in fat as possible), and minimizing the role of highly processed starch in my life. I need to be moderate in my alcohol consumption (for all sorts of good reasons), and sugary treats should be a rare pleasure, not a regular snack.
Then, on the other side of the ledger, I'm trying hard to get into the habit of a daily bike ride of 3-5 miles, plus a hike or a longer ride on weekends. I got a lot of exercise in my first couple of jobs, back about 15-20 years ago, but then came a lot of desk jobs with nice salaries but no exertion. I'd like to counteract the resulting weight gain and loss of fitness, and in less than the 10-15 years it took to inflict it on myself, so that will require some just getting used to being hungry. But I'd really rather be 15 stone than 19, so something has to change! :-)

Thank you very much :-) I feel as if my face doesn't entirely cause mirrors to crack from side to side :-) but I'd like to feel a little less like Jabba the Hutt too.
