Aug. 14th, 2006 01:35 pmAn insightful and humourous, if slightly profane, analysis of recent events in the GWOT (or whatever the White House is calling it this week); many thanks to
pisica for posting the link!
I particularly love the quote from Herodotus in one of the comments. I think that witty bravado in the face of near-certain destruction is particularly wonderful, and I love to be reminded of it. Another example that springs to mind is the (possibly fictional) reply from the British 1st Airborne officer at the battle of Arnhem, when the German forces who surrounded, overpowered, and outnumbered them mooted the topic of surrender.
"Sorry, chaps," came the reply from the "we don't have the facilituies to take you all prisoner!"
None of which is really relevant to the blog post; I just love the bravado... :-)

Date: 2006-08-15 04:13 pm (UTC)This writer has articulated what I have thought ever since the initial shock wore off (which was five years ago, people) -- if you panic, they've won. Jeezis. And, shit -- what kind of wussies are we, anyway? One (admittedly horrific and truly evil) act of terrorism, and the citizenry cowers in a corner, happily and eagerly trading civil rights for illusory safety of a stupid, expensive, and unjustified war with Iran (oh, and let's not forget Afghanistan, shall we? Oh, we have? Nevermind...). What indeed has happened to the land of the free and home of the brave? It's apparently neither..
Of course, the terror-ists couldn't have had such a complete victory over our hearts and minds if it weren't for the way the Bush administration has flailed and screamed and whipped the country into a state of hysteria. Let's give 'em a hand, shall we? How else to get that Middle East war Big Oil and their concubines have been wanting all this time? Now, I don't believe that the Bushites actually planned 9/11, as some conspiracy nutjobs do, but I have to say that if that turned out to be true, I wouldn't be as surprised as I should be.
Ooooookay, Kitty. Cool out. ^_^;
Anyhow, thanks for the link. Preaching to the choir, sure, but sometimes when you're surrounded by W stickers even now, it's nice to know that you're not alone out there...
