OK, I need to lose some weight. I'm working on the exercise front. And I've been doing better at resisting the call of the vending machine during the long afternoon hours and eating more fruits and vegetables. I need to cut back a lot more on fast food. Cook more and eat less heavily processed foods. And I'm going to stop doing sweets other than fruit (except for the tasty chocs that Mel and Chris brought me--those I'm going to hoard for special treats). And I'm going to stop drinking alcohol for a while; partly so as to drop the calories and partly because I like doing that every once in a while, just to make sure I can.

Edit: Thanks to all for the encouragement and suggestions! :-)

I suggest sparkpeople.com! Mainly for it's meal planner thingy- you enter in what you eat and it shows you your calories/fat/sodium etc for each item and for the day. I'm on it to eat better, ad it's definitely helped me id propblem area - like my sodium content is through the roof!

Abstaining from Vending machines can also save money. Its occurred to me that I was spending £10 a week on vending machines at York University...scarey....

Here's a couple of suggestions which of course you can take or leave as you please. First, read Fast Food Nation - that put me off eating fast food permanently. Best health benefit I ever got from reading a book! Second, I have the same trouble you do with the vending machines at work. I bought a bunch of storable snacks and I keep them in my drawer. Stuff like rice cakes, crackers, that type of thing. They'll take the edge off if you get hungry, and you're not loading up on way more calories than you need (plus, as an added bonus, you save money!)

Good luck!

One of the things I found hardest to give up was diet soda, but once I did, I felt so much better. It's chock full of crap. I have one occasionally, but since I've lived in Leeds I've been drinking a lot of water, and it's definitely made me feel good.

Use an online BMI calculator...if you dare. I just happen to use several this morning. It's rather depressing.

You however should use it for motivation ;)
