two wonderful songs
Jul. 20th, 2006 09:36 pmI was thinking of this song, not because I am in a tough place (I'm really not--I have a great job, good friends, and a lovely home), but because I know friends are finding life hard, and I wish I could lighten their load. I'd like to think if there is a God, it's one that loves its creation and tries to give it strength and truth. I'm not sure I *do* believe that, but sometimes will to believe is enough, and if anything can conjure that kind of will, it's this song by Woody Guthrie. If I remember the story aright, Ellis Paul wrote a melody for it, at the invitation of Guthrie's family, which is what he recorded. It's a wonderful strong, worthy song.
The other is another song of someone else's that Ellis has recorded. It's a song by the late Dave Carter, another piece that really makes me want to believe because it describes something so wonderful that you want to believe it.
I wish peace and strength to my friends who need it, and hope and strength and peace to all the world.
