Some British English spellings I am up on. But I did not know that what is spelled "behoove" in the USA is spelt 'behove' in the UK. All righty, then.

I expect you didn't know it because it's not a word most people use. I know you have a larger vocabulary than most people, but I'd say I do too, and I've lived here for 12 years without knowing that. It doesn't often come up.

I'm preposterously well endowed in the vocabulary department, thanks to my family's various quirks. I am ridiculously pleased with the fact that the only novelist who has ever made me look up a word was William F. Buckley. :-) But mostly it just means that I come up with jokes that other people don't think are funny or that I have to footnote what ought to be casual conversation, so it's more a curse than an attribute. :-)

I guess it's what separates the sheep from the goats (the wannabe Yanks with pretensions from the natives; but, wait--which are which? :-).
