Palagius was a cool dude. When he arrived in Rome from the British Isles, he was shocked at the viciousness of Roman Christians. Augustine (one of the guys who blamed the Jews for the crucifixion of Jesus) defended Roman viciousness as a predestined state. Palagius rebutted that Romans were vicious because they chose to be so. Such was the beginning of long term feud between the two.

Augustine strikes me as being cast very much in the mould of Paul. Not my favourite Christians.
