Are folks still interested in a Burns Night dinner? It would have to be *very* early (the 14th or 15th), since not only am I going to be gone the actual night (the 25th) and the weekend following, but my reenacting group has just announced they'll be having their annual dinner the weekend before. My apologies to the folks (sidhne, redactrice, magaidhbhan, and selki) who were interested if this makes it impractical (or seems too far off from the actual date to be "right"; I figure it's just dinner with whisky and poetry--what need to be on a particular day?)

In sad Scottish gourmand news, I discovered the last time I was in Old Town that Scotland Yard is gone, due to be replaced with an American "Southern Country" restaurant. Searchign the Web, all I've been able to find is that it closed its doors last summer. :-(

Wow - I can't believe you didn't know that. The first time I saw Scotland Yard, it's doors were closed (and that was during this past summer). Hmm...I might be able to make it now that the date has changed, but I think we were planning a wine/cheese thingie the 14th.

Well, I used to go to Old Town all the time when I lived on Commonwealth Avenue. Living in Falls Church and Fairfax, I just didn't get there that often (though I think that may be changing now :-).

Well, A lives in south Alexandria, so I'm going to be spending more time there than I have recently. :-) That's mostly what I meant.

At some point, when Chris and I sell the house (still not sure when that's going to be), I'm going to have to move. I've mixed feelings about where to go (assuming I stay in DC). I like Arlington and parts of Alexandria (I've always loved Del Ray), but I don't know if I could afford the sort of place I'd like there. I'm not fundamentally opposed to living in DC; there are parts of Georgetown and SE that look really nice but, again, I don't know whether I'll be able to afford to live in the neighborhoods I've seen that I like. I've seen parts of Maryland I'd like, too, but that would be a big bother for me commutingwise, event hough I'd love to be out of RedStateVirginia. A lot will depend on what is happening in the rest of my life (which will dictate where and, maybe, with whom I want to be) and what the market is like (what I can afford, what we get out of the house, how much I need to pay off my outstanding debts, which I'd really like to do).

Well, in an ideal world, yes, maybe somewhere in the West End of Glasgow, Calton or New Town Edingburgh, or in Stirling or Inverness (go, Caledonian Thistle!) But the best-laid plans of mice and men aft gang agley. Or so they say. :-)

My sweetie may visit that weekend, and I'm not sure if we'll be social other than a housewarming party I'm already committed to. But it's a possibility.
