Hey that's almost a straight line! Enjoy the trip.

I remember once flying from Luxembourg to London Heathrow ... via Frankfurt. that too is almost a straight line ... with the starting point in the middle!

I must admit I'd have thought it would be cheaper getting a Washington - UK main airport (Birmingham or Manchester probably) and taking an internal UK flight.

Well it seems like your route doesn't come up at all and the cheapest is US Airways changing in Philadelphia then straight to Glasgow for GBP 426.90. I didn't realise there were trans-atlantic flights into Glasgow. Ah well you live and learn.

Yeah, when I looked on the same service (www.airlineconsolidator.com) for flights to London, they all came in at higher prices than the flights to Glasgow (most of which were three hops--I was grateful to get this one that was only two). :-( When I looked at Expedia (the .com--I'll have to remember to check the .co.uk), the cheapest flight it offered me was $4000! I want to come, but not *that* much!

CRAP! I totally wasn't thinking! I just realized that the weekend I picked to leave is the weekend you're getting married! And, of course, the tickets are low-fare nonrefundable. Which leaves me with two totally untenable alternatives (not being there to see you get hitched and flushing $900 down the drain). Bugger, bugger, bugger.

I'm trying to decide if I want to try to backpack it (in which case I'll need some advice from you pros on getting a pack) or just do a low-budget tour. I'm leaning towards heading for Skye (to see the things I missed last time), but the north Highlands/Orkney could be good, or Lymond & Phillipa country (the Borders), Glen Coe and the Cairngorms (if I'm feeling like some adventurous hiking), or just exploring Glasgow and Loch Lomond Park.

It's a good thing I have a few weeks to decide! :-)
