various stuff
Jun. 9th, 2005 11:13 amThe Indigo Girls concert last night was a great deal of fun. The music was good, the people-watching was quite enjoyable, and the company (Nora and Glenda) was excellent. We discussed the upcoming schedule; there are many things that would be tempting if, as Glenda said, someoen else were paying for the tickets. :-) Since that's not likely to happen, she and I agreed we'd like to see Gordon Lightfoot aand would consider Elvis Costello or Sweeney Todd/ Glensda also expressed interest in the Moody Blues; I'd like to see Mark Knopfler, Carole King, and Great Big Sea (CSN and the Kingston Trio are also tempting). Nora said she'd like to hear Celtic Woman.
It turns out the soccer class I take Wednesday nights from the county rec system is coming up for another season, starting June 29th. I'd highly recommend it (either the I or II version) to anyone interested in playing who hasn't played before, or at least hasn't played in a long time. It's a very friendly group, low-key and no pressure, and a good instructor.
Speaking of soccer, I'm going to try to get back to playing in pick-up matches on the weekend. I definitely need more exercise, and maybe if I start doign some runnign during the week I will shape up to the point that I'm not a total liability in weekend games. :-)
The DC Conscripts (local Adv. Squad Leader group) are having their Virginia meeting this month on Saturday at the Woodbridge Game Parlor. Hopefully I can get a couple of matches in towards my 50-match (all time, not this year) goal.
And, speaking of music, Nora, Jason, and I will be seeing Ellis Paul Sunday night at Jammin Java. I want to make it out to ChrisV's housewarming during the day, and sometime over the weekend I promised to help Nora put together her new desk chair. A busy weekend in store, and that's not counting the cleaning I need to finish (dusted and vacuumed the whole apartment yesterday, but I still have lots of work to do in the kitchen and bathroom) or the paperwork (balancing my checkbook and filing papers) that also needs to happen soon.
I fired up the old Match.com and Salon personals profiles and put up ones in a few other places and got one or two nibbles; and (in the words of Sir Edmund Blackadder) "I think you know me well enough, Mr Pants, to know that I'm not the sort of man to ignore a nibble for long."
