photos from the royal wedding

Does this sound strangely phrased to anyone else?

The wedding brings to a conclusion a relationship between Charles and Camilla that began when they met at a Windsor polo match in 1970, a year before the prince joined the Royal Navy.

"Brings to a conclusion"? I would think it simply gives it the form of societal approval.

I suspect there's probably a reason they said "a" relationship rather than "the" relationship, but you're right that it's a very odd phrasing.

Yay for eventual happy endings.

It might sound lame, but all I can think of is, "at last, about time, hurray!" But then, I'm somewhat of a romantic like that.
