Lots to catch up in in the 4-5 days since I last logged on to LJ.

Much amusing and interesting stuff out there, but I have to link to this post by [livejournal.com profile] brithistorian. Priceless!

Dr. B. is winging her way to Hawai'i; the poor thing is having to suffer through a week-long political science conference in the land of beaches, warm breezes, and fruity drinks. C&M are leaving tomorrow for a trip to go hiking in Georgia, so it's going to be me and a lot of cats for about a week. Maybe I'll finally catch up on the reading for my analytical methods class.

I'm trying not to think too much about national politics right now; it's too depressing. The RNC chair was on NPR this morning and gave a stunning performance on the president's social security "reform" "plan" that mixed equal parts lies, evasions, and distortion. I'm not sure he actually spoke a single word of the unvarnished truth, other than possbily saying his name.

I revolt against torturing myself this way in large part because I'm loving life so much otherwise. Work is going OK, and things with N couldn't be nicer. We find each other's company so easy and pleasant and comfortable; we have a great time together whatever we do (or doing nothing at all) and we're enjoying a mixture of living in the now and talking about where the future may lead us. I honestly don't remember the last time I was this happy, which isn't a criticism or a complaint about my friends and family at all, just praise of my love and the pleasure of sharing even the most day to day things with her (there's a time when grocery shopping will go back to being just another chore, but I'm not trying to hurry that along. :-)

I got to talk briefly to her mum the other evening (waves hello) who was just as dryly amusing as I had anticipated from everything Nora's said about her. I'm quite looking forward to meeting her, and I know my folks are looking forward to meeting NB.

Rocky came over on Saturday and we had a good game of Might of Arms, with his Lancastrian rebels taking on my Yorkist lords (any of you who know Rocky will not be surprised to hear the Lancastrian arms were victorious). Peter joined us for a while, and Nora stopped in and watched now and then while doing some work she had brought home.

And I've started on another tranche of weight loss (hopefully) by going back on SBD phase 1 for the week NB is away. I lost 20 pounds over two weeks last time, and kept most of it off, so if I can do that twice more I'll be back down to what I think of as a pretty healthy weight. Now if I can jsut get back to some healthy exercise habits and into a good sleep routine, I should be all set! :-)

Glad you're so happy!

Were you pissed at C and/or me last night?
