Senate repeals "Don't Ask, Don't Tall"
Joe Lieberman finally did something right.
I would be prouder if this ban had never existed, but I have to say I am pleased and happy with my government today. While repealing the ban is generally a popular move, it is very unpopular with some very vocal and politically influential people, so this wasn't an easy vote for all of those 65 to make.
I'm disgusted by John McCain's stance. He of all people should know that it doesn't matter a damn what someone's orientation is; all that matters is if they can do the job.
But most of all, I'm so proud of all of those people who wanted, and still want, to serve their county, in many cases risking their lives, when they were in danger every moment of being tossed out on their ear just because they were gay. And the people like Mr Almy, mentioned at the end of the article, who were discharged but still want to go back if they can--that is a bigger sign of patriotism and love of country than all the giant flags and schmaltzy C/W songs ever written, IMO.
