I really never will be able to get over how incredibly RUDE it seems to me for people to simply IGNORE invitations.

Yes, people are often busy with work or family issues, or sick, and I'm sure that they have many more important things to do than talk to me. That doesn't bother me.

Yes, people who really don't know me well may feel that responding to someone they're not familiar with isn't a big priority. I can understand that.

But when people I know well enough to invite to my home don't feel the need to even *reply* to an invitation...

Well, it sends me a strong message that I don't matter much to them. Which gives me a clear indication that I needn't bother issuing them any more invitations.

BBC obituary

I never met him, but I've heard him speak a lot, and I've seen him move across the world stage, shaping the modern day and the future as he did so. He wasn't everyone's favourite person, but he was remarkably accomplished, a powerful man (physically and emotionally) with a first-class mind. I think our nation will be the poorer fr his loss.
