things to do in DC (before you're gone)
Jun. 26th, 2008 06:55 pmI've been wishing I were in the UK a lot lately, missing the places that I've been that I'd like to go again, and looking forward to places I've not yet been that I'd like to go to (in the UK and other places in Europe--National Geographic has a nice article on Como, for instance, and the grrls have great pictures of lots of Spain and Italy that make them look very enticing).
But I won't be doing that any time soon, so, in an attempt to take a more positive approach, I'm trying to think of all the things I want to be sure to do and see around here before I leave DC. ( Read more... )

Jun. 26th, 2008 10:18 pmWith way too many things to do tonight already before Neta comes home tomorrow, and knowing that I have to get up early tomorrow to get to work by 8 (two hours earlier than I have been for the last couple of months), I finish a couple of chores and head into the bedroom to strip the bed and take the sheets and other laundry down to the basement to wash.
And that's when I see the hairball. Right in the middle of the bed. In the sheets, which I hadn't bothered pulling the coverlet over because I was going to be washing them tonight.
Now, it's the beginning of summer, so we've been having a lot of these as the cats lose their cold-weather coats. So I set out to do what I should have been doing twice a day--dose them with Petromalt.
Only instead of protesting mildly and letting me does them, for once the cats decide they're going to run and hide and struggle and fight and run and hide and...Really not what I needed tonight.
So now, all four cats have been dosed. Despite the air conditioning, I'm pouring with sweat. One hand is heavily bruised and the skin torn off the back where I skinned it trying to grab a cat under a bed. The crotch seam in my trousers is ripped open from trying to catch a cat running between my legs.
And I still
have
to clean up
the hairball.
Anyone want four cats, mostly intact?
