Jun. 15th, 2007 03:08 pmYAY! an taigh anns na craobhan will be going on the market this weekend! The estate agent contacted
redactrice to say that the sign would be going up today or tomorrow, and the advert would go on Multiple Listing Service tomorrow. Our long national nightmare is reaching its end. Or, as Sir Winston would have said, .... well, you all know that bit. ( Read more... )

strategy game, anyone?
Jun. 15th, 2007 05:24 pmI've had a yen for a while to run another diplomatic play-by-email game. N and I are slowly getting things sorted out and unpacked and our new home is coming together, so I think I might have time to run a one-turn-per-week game. So I thought I would post here looking for takers (I'm emailing a number of friends as well.)
My thought was to suggest the fine game "Machiavelli" by James Wood (one of my old history profs). It's a relatively simple game that features diplomacy, treachery, warfare, the clash of cultures (those moustachioed Turks trying to break down the door of Eastern Europe while France and Spain squabble over Italy). The rules are not overly complex, and can be found on the Web; there's also a good breakdown of the rules here.
Players would not need a copy of the game; I would undertake to provide an electronic copy of the map and update it with unit positions &c. after every turn was resolved. Diplomacy could be conducted player to player through email &c. I might even be able to set up a web discussion board for public diplomacy, proclamations, news, results postings, and so forth.
So, if you'd be interested, let me know. If I get a group of players who want to give it a try, I'll start it up in the next couple of weeks. If you're interested in learning more but not sure you want to play, tell me that too, and I can include you in informational postings.
I have ambitions of doing something a bit more complex one of these days, along the lines of Rosewar, but one must run
before one can walk.
And, yes,
vikingcat, I know I am sadly delinquent in our TBB game. Somehow I forgot that the decanter of port was in front of me (as it were).
