Someone helpfully sent me this link to a nice property and then this one to a slightly smaller place.

Yep, with my savings in hand, I should be giving those estate agents a call right soon...

OK, I am about comatose, and I went to bed early.

Well, perhaps I should clarify 'early'. [livejournal.com profile] soccer_fox, [livejournal.com profile] gr_c17, and [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel, and I all went over to the old house to help [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat pack up and move the last of their things. I got there a little after 7; the others followed shortly thereafter. We spent a good five hours packing, tidying, humping stuff out to the cars, and generally trying to help out. We broke up around half midnight, with most dispersing to their homes (B very kindly dropped N off at our place, having picked her up on the way down), while I drove into town with the grrls to convey a load of goods, and I got to ma bed aroun' 1.30. C was going *back* for one more load, with some more work for them to do this morning.

The cleaners were coming this a.m., with the buyer doing final walk-through at 1 before the closing at 3. I am just PRAYING that there isn't some last-minute hitch that makes the buyer cavil and cause trouble.

We were going to go out for a celebratory dinner, but I think we will all be so beat that we'll do that another time.

Know anyone who wants a house in Fairfax County? Send them here!

In other good news, DC United won 3-1 over Chicago, the US trounced Panama 2-1, and about a bazillion people were served at yesterday's Screaming Eagles tailgate. We went through I don't know how many racks of ribs, several hundred hotdogs and burgers, several dozen bratwursts and scores of half-smokes, veggie dogs and burgers, and a huge quantity of chicken breasts. The last were marinated, cooked, and cut up into chunks for burritos, for which torillas were provided, but people seemed leery of using those and instead put the chicken chunks on hot dog buns. Huh?

YAY! an taigh anns na craobhan will be going on the market this weekend! The estate agent contacted [livejournal.com profile] redactrice to say that the sign would be going up today or tomorrow, and the advert would go on Multiple Listing Service tomorrow. Our long national nightmare is reaching its end. Or, as Sir Winston would have said, .... well, you all know that bit. Read more... )

Today's score at Highland Lane: One tub of spackling almost exhausted during the course of repairing one large and several minor bits of wall damage as well as patching innumerable nail holes. Two sections of carpeting (damaged by Nicholas) replaced. The guy who [livejournal.com profile] soccer_fox found to do the carpet work was on time, quick, and did good work; I would recommend him. Also five loads of paper brought up from the basement for recycling. Finally, eight loads of insulation board, beaverboard, shelving, piping, and other old junk brought up from the basement to the kerb for pickup by the Weee Haul Eeet Awwwl man tomorrow.

This in addition to the work that [livejournal.com profile] soccer_fox and I did at my mother's over the weekend, carting about half a dozen cartons of junk from my dad's study plus about fifty years' worth of Times Literary supplement (estimate: they filled up the back of a Volvo station wagon to the roof, and I know I saw some from the mid-1950s, which means that he *moved* them to Newport News!) And, of course, driving there and back in successive days, since N's WAWSL team ,the Vixens, had a match on Saturday morning (and a good thing she went, too, as she was their only sub!)

Exhausted! Time for a shower, a change of clothes, then in to work. Home after to unload bits and pieces we brought back from NN and do a bit of cleaning chez Scarpari/Spoor.
