winterbadger: (re-defeat Bush!)
I had missed this article on Bush's arrogation on Constitutional power, but was pointed to it by a link from a link pf [livejournal.com profile] percyprune's.

The breadth of arrogance reflected in this, and the consistency with which the president has been attempting to undermine the rule of law in the United States is beyond my ability to express a coherent opinion at this time.

EDIT2: Can't resist adding this quote from the end of the piece:

Bruce Fein, a deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration, said the American system of government relies upon the leaders of each branch ''to exercise some self-restraint." But Bush has declared himself the sole judge of his own powers, he said, and then ruled for himself every time.

''This is an attempt by the president to have the final word on his own constitutional powers, which eliminates the checks and balances that keep the country a democracy," Fein said. ''There is no way for an independent judiciary to check his assertions of power, and Congress isn't doing it, either. So this is moving us toward an unlimited executive power."

Moussaoui to get life in prison.

JMO, but I think this is much better than executing him, in many ways.

...for feeding my addiction. I've been hoarding gift cards he gave me for Xmas and my birthday, and spent them recently on a DVD of Local Hero and CDs from Old Blind Dogs. I listened to Gab o the Mey last night on the way home; thank you, Peter!
winterbadger: (bike)
Quick bike ride after work, before dinner. Just two miles around the neighborhood. Note to self: need to replace headlamp if planning on riding at/after dusk. And remember to bring the buff you got the other day; it will keep out bugs-in-the-mouth.

Now dinner. I'm thinking perhaps soup and salad...
