that is all

There was a piece on NPR this morning talking about the fact that once Kerry accepts the Democrtic nomination he must either stop collecting personal contributions or pass on federal funding for his campaign. Apparently he can still spend whatever he's collected up to that point. Despite being a pretty wealthy guy, he's probably going to go the federal funds route.

So, if you are at all inclined to contribute, do so TODAY. There's a contribution link at his campaign website; in fact, the contribution page is right here.

If you love Kerry and/or Edwards and think they should be running the country come next January, contribute today.

If you don't love them, but think they'll do a good job, contribute today.

Even if you're not thrilled by them, but definitely want Bush and Cheney out of the White House, contribute today.

If you don't have money but can give time, or if you have both money and time to spare, consider volunteering.

Help voter registration efforts.

Be sure and register yourself (Virginia) (Maryland) (District of Columbia)

And consider working as an election officer (Fairfax) (Loudon) (Alexandria) (Arlington) (District) (Montgomery) (Prince George's)

[Sorry, I know many of you live outside this area; if I didn't post a link for your relvant locale, it shouldn't be to hard to find through Google or Yahoo, or whatever your preference is. Just look for "voter registration (your state and/or county)" or "election officer (your state and or county)".]

Please, whatever your politics, get involved in the process. Democracy needs all of us to work.

(But, for goodness' sake, let's get Bush and Cheney out of office!)

Edited: To fix a URL and to add this: I'm putting my money (and my time) where my mouth is. I've made my contribution--it wasn't $2000 (the max. allowed), but it's more than I've ever given a political candidate before--and I'm going to try to sign up again as an election officer. I've done it before and, as our county website says "The hours are long, the pay is low, but your contribution to democracy is enormous!" This year more than ever they're going to need sharp, capable people out there helping to make sure the election process works properly.

Clark: good speaker. strong presentation. still think he would make a good candidate for president or VP.

Lieberman: eh. i respect his accomplishments and his historic status as the first jew nominated for VP. but i still can't get past the years he's carried water for the pharmas. and, of course, he can never accept that anything israel does could be questionable.

pelosi: decent speech. not exceptional, and she sniggered a bit here and there in an annoying way.

willie nelson: what a disreputable old scoundrel, still singing along after all this time :-)

albright: great old lady, who has seen and done so much. not moving, but a competent and professional speaker.

alfre woodward: forceful and vital. hardly fair to compare skilled actors with pols :-)

CAROLE KING: one performer i really can get excited about!!! I really am such a pathetic old boomer...

BTW, the audio quotes (Carter and JFK so far that I can recall) are so much more moving than the frightful "stirring" music they use. whoever is coordinating the incidental music for this hould be taken out and thrown in the harbor. among other things, they keep having little visual profiles of republicans who are voting for kerry, with dudududududuh music underlying them, then a final strong note. well, it's supposed to be a strong note, but it comes out sounding more like a "boing" you'd hear at the end of a bad comic's act. NOT good...

sorry i missed so many people earlier in the evening: i really wanted to hear EH Norton; hopefully the Post will have a video of her speech. and mfume, franks, gov warner

another quote: Barbara Jordan---wow, I loved that lady! i remember her during the watergate hearings. what a shame that she left us so early. she would have been only in her 60s today. :-(

His daughters are lovely, in a beaky kind of way.

Vanessa was sweet and funny,  in a politician's daughter kind of way. Alexandra... well, I'm a sap for a pretty brown-haired girl, and I'm a sap when it comes to touching and affecting stories like the ones she told. I was glad that there were a couple of other people in the audiene who were learly  getting teary-eyed like me.

The bio was well done. Moving, folksy in a kind of upper class NE way. A bit of humour.I would love to see all that testimony he gave. I wonder if one can find it .

The BoB are a real set of archetypes. The SF guy...I've met guys like that (younger, but some who were in that same war) When a guy like that says the things he did, I'm inclined to listen hard.

Max Cleland. I can't even imagine what it must be like, not just to live 40 years of your life as a triple amputee, but to suddenly find yourself there after having been a young, active man, fighting fit and in combat. He's a strong and effective, heartfelt speaker, too.

This speech needs to be earth-shaking after that introduction.
