early convention watching
Jul. 29th, 2004 09:29 pmClark: good speaker. strong presentation. still think he would make a good candidate for president or VP.
Lieberman: eh. i respect his accomplishments and his historic status as the first jew nominated for VP. but i still can't get past the years he's carried water for the pharmas. and, of course, he can never accept that anything israel does could be questionable.
pelosi: decent speech. not exceptional, and she sniggered a bit here and there in an annoying way.
willie nelson: what a disreputable old scoundrel, still singing along after all this time :-)
albright: great old lady, who has seen and done so much. not moving, but a competent and professional speaker.
alfre woodward: forceful and vital. hardly fair to compare skilled actors with pols :-)
CAROLE KING: one performer i really can get excited about!!! I really am such a pathetic old boomer...
BTW, the audio quotes (Carter and JFK so far that I can recall) are so much more moving than the frightful "stirring" music they use. whoever is coordinating the incidental music for this hould be taken out and thrown in the harbor. among other things, they keep having little visual profiles of republicans who are voting for kerry, with dudududududuh music underlying them, then a final strong note. well, it's supposed to be a strong note, but it comes out sounding more like a "boing" you'd hear at the end of a bad comic's act. NOT good...
sorry i missed so many people earlier in the evening: i really wanted to hear EH Norton; hopefully the Post will have a video of her speech. and mfume, franks, gov warner
another quote: Barbara Jordan---wow, I loved that lady! i remember her during the watergate hearings. what a shame that she left us so early. she would have been only in her 60s today. :-(

Date: 2004-07-30 01:36 am (UTC)Lieberman: Yuck. Well, I don't *dislike* him but he doesn't impress me and his is so wishy-washy on issues that I never know where he stands - and neither does he. I was quite underwhelmed when he was running for VP and I still am!
Pelosi: I thought I was the only one bothered by the sniggering! It bothered me so much that I couldn't get into the speech. It reminded me of someone who thinks they have a dirty little secret, but when you find out what it is, it was neither dirty or a secret.
Back under the blanket to watch a bit more. This cold is kicking my butt!
