Right now. And be on one of those boats. The only times I've gone sailing (mostly for an afternoon, but once for, what was it, a week? a week and a half?) I've loved it. Scotland + sailing? I can only imagine that it would be as close to heaven as I can easily imagine. One of my neighbors is selling a rather beat-up-looking twentysome-footer for about $2,000, and it's taking all my willpower not to at least go over and look at it...

Sometimes I think I live in the wrong place. Then I come to and realize I do.

I use to do quite a bit of sailing as a youth but it's been way to long now. One of my few pleasant memories from my childhood.

If you pick up a boat let me know if you need a crew :)

First I need lots more experience, though. Chris and I were talking about taking saling classes in Alexandria, back before we split up. I'm thinking I should look into doing that.

I love that site. They have great travel advice, great book recommendations, and the most wonderful photogrpahs.

When are you going? I am so desparately jealous; I want so much to go back, but I have no leave to take a trip, and won't for some time, since our allowance is so tiny (three weeks a year for all vacation, sick time, etc.)

1. Yes, but (a) Jim is one of those people who magically manage to have trouble pouring piss out of a boot when the instructions are written on the sole and (b) I'm not planning on buying a *CONCRETE* boat. I rather think I prefer one made of fiberglass :-)

2. What, three? ;-) Honestly, if I knew how to sail it and had a place to store it, I would get so much more pleasure out of a sailboat. After all, I could sail probably half the weekends a year, and we get around to playing 40K, what, two or three times a year at best? :-)
