Aug. 13th, 2004 10:50 amAnd what it said was that some of the biopsies of the polyps they removed indicated that they were not benign or cancerous, but an adenoma. And that therefore I should come back next year and have another colonoscopy (change med plan ASAP!)
So I look up "adenoma" on the netand get this definition: "A benign tumor that arises in or resembles glandular tissue. If it becomes cancerous, it is called an adenocarcinoma."
And, from Wikipedia (my favourite source of information)
Adenoma refers to a collection of growths (-oma) of glandular origin. Adenomas can grow from many organs including the colon, adrenal, thyroid, etc. These growths are benign, but some are known to have the potential, over time, to transform to malignancy.
Adenomas of the colon are quite prevalent. They are found commonly at colonoscopy. They are removed because of their tendency to become malignant and lead to colon cancer. Removal is simple and painless at the time of colonoscopy.
So, I guess, nothing to worry about too much right now. THe sinus infection, on the other hand, continues for the fourth week. OK, I'm getting the antibioitcs now; the Dr. gave me a script, but said not to use it right away in case my bosy finished the thing off by itself. Body is calling back to HQ for reinforcements...
